Brands need a Creator mindset.

To compete online in 2023, brands need to start adopting a Creator mindset.

Did you know that more than 95 million posts are shared on Instagram every day?

And that’s just one channel.

These posts are all competing for consumer attention.

And when you think about the creativity and frequency of some of your favourite creators - THAT is what you are actually competing with as a brand.

It’s no secret that not every brand creates great content. It’s blasphemy around here, but there are some brands that aren’t even on Instagram yet, I know shock horror!!

And trust me, I get it. Social media is an absolute beast. It requires time, creativity and let’s be real, money.

So how do brands, big and small, need to change their mindsets in 2023 to become more like their favourite creators?

1. You need to take your brand hat off and start putting yourself in the shoes of your audience/consumer.

This means you need to start looking at what type of content is getting watched and engaged with the most both out there in the social universe, but also on your pages as well (if you have already been posting).

What is is about this content that’s working? Or not working?

How can you adapt these elements to your own content?

2. You need to get serious about content creation.

Content creators do this as a full-time job, so you need to make sure you’re actually carving out enough time to be serious about your own content creation.

And if you don’t have the time, it might be time to consider outsourcing some portion of it.

Taking content creation seriously means taking the time to:

  • Review on your previous contents analytics

  • Consume and analyse other people’s content

  • Brainstorm and strategise your next month of content and what you can do differently

  • Batch create enough posts for multiple posts per week (or even multiple per day!)

  • Schedule out your posts (so you don’t lose your sanity)

  • Check in everyday to engage with your audience and respond to any comments on your posts.

And then do it all again the next month.

3. You can’t be afraid to fail.

Great creators test new things. And they’re not afraid of it falling flat. Well they might be, but they put it out anyway.

It’s only by testing new features, new content types, new styles, new call-to-actions, that you start getting a sense of what your audience responds to.

You can’t be afraid to test a new approach.

Our advice is to just make sure you give any new strategy a chance to pay off. Don’t create one post and think you’re going to go viral. In reality, that very rarely happens.

The best brands have creator mindsets, and if this all sounds like it’s way too much, the best part is you can fake it by leveraging Influencers and Creators to do the work for you.

Balancing your branded content with user generated content and Influencer/Creator content and take the overwhelm out of your content creation.

If you’re not sure where to start, we’d love to brainstorm with you any time!
